Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume #1: Sensors |
Author: Joseph J. Carr |
SAMS#: 61098 |
Price: $32.95 |
Summary |
Electronic instrumentation
today is largely computer-based. The use of the digital computer
has greatly improved the design of electronic instruments, control
systems and related devices. Many texts are available that discuss
electronic instrumentation and computer interfacing. A topic usually
lacking in these texts, however, is extensively covered in Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume 1: Sensors -- namely, the analog interface.
Most sensors are inherently analog in nature, so their outputs
are not usable by the digital computer. Even if the sensor is
supposedly a "digital output" design, it is likely that
an inherently analog process is paired with an analog-to-digital
converter. In Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume 1: Sensors,
you will find information you need about typical sensors, along
with a large amount of information about analog sensor circuitry.
Amplifier circuits are especially well covered, along with differential
amplifiers, analog signal processing circuits, and more. |

Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume #2: IC Timers |
Author: Joseph J. Carr |
SAMS#: 61106 |
Price: $32.95 |
Summary |
Timer circuits used to be a
lot of trouble to build and tame for several reasons. One major
reason was the fact that DC power supply variations would cause
a frequency shift or slow drift-modern timers are designed to
permit a wide variation in the DC supply voltage without affecting
the output frequency or single-pulse duration. Another reason
is that the equations determining the frequency or timing were
little more than approximate, despite the appearance of great
precision in the textbooks-modern timers will work very closely
to the way the textbooks say they do. Electronic Circuit Guidebook,
Volume 2: IC Timers will show you how it is done. Part 1 of this
book is organized to demonstrate the theory of how various timers
work. This is done by way of an introduction to resistor-capacitor
circuits, and in-depth chapters on TTL and CMOS digital IC timers,
the LM-555 and other IC devices, operational amplifier timer circuits,
retriggerable timers and long duration timers. Through simplified
equations and detailed graphics, the information presented is
perfect for both practicing technician's and enthusiastic hobbyists.
Part 2 presents a variety of different circuits and projects.
Some of the circuits are standalone, while others are for incorporation
into other circuits. Examples of some of the circuits included
are: touchplate trigger, missing pulse detector, analog audio
frequency meter, one-second timer/flasher, relay and optoisolator
drivers, two-phase digital clock, 100kHz crystal calibrator and
many more. Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume 2: IC Timers will
teach you enough that you will not only be able to rework and
modify the circuits covered here, but also design a few of your
own.

Circuit Guidebook, Volume #3: Op Amps |
Author: Joseph J. Carr
|
| SAMS#: 61131
|
Price: $32.95 |
Summary |
The operational amplifier
(op amp) is the most commonly used linear IC amplifier in the
world. The range of applications for the op amp is truly awesome-it
has become a mainstay of audio, communications, TV, broadcasting,
instrumentation, control and measurement circuits. Third
in a series covering electronic instrumentation and circuitry,
Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume 3: Op Amps is designed to
give you some insight into how practical linear IC amplifiers
work in actual, practical real-life circuits. Because of their
widespread popularity, operational amplifiers figure heavily in
this book, though other types of amplifiers are not overlooked.
Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume 3: Op Amps allows you to
design and configure your own circuits and is intended to be a
practical workshop aid.

Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume #4: Electro-Optics |
Author: Joseph J. Carr |
SAMS#: 61132 |
Price: $32.95 |
Summary |
Electro-optics is the marriage
of electronics and optics to form a wide variety of instruments,
circuits, and devices with a large number of uses. The "electric
eye" used by the shopkeeper to alert when customers arrive
is an electro-optical device. Other devices include industrial
production machinery, scientific and medical instruments, television
cameras, and many others. Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume
4: Electro-Optics is mostly about E-O sensors-those electronic
transducers that convert light waves into a proportional voltage,
current or resistance. The coverage of the sensors is wide enough
to allow you to understand the physics behind the theory of operation
of the device, and also the circuits used to make these sensors
into useful devices. This book examines the photoelectric effect,
photoconductivity, photovoltaics, and PN junction photodiodes
and phototransistors. Also examined is the operation of lenses,
mirrors, prisms, and other optical elements keyed to light physics. |

Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume #5: Digital Electronics |
Author: Joseph J. Carr |
SAMS#: 61129 |
Price: $32.95 |
Summary |
Have you noticed the digital
revolution in electronics? Nearly everything electronic is "coming
up digital." Digital electronics includes personal computers,
large computers, hand-held calculators, industrial instruments,
test equipment, household appliances, and a host of other devices.
Even traditional analog devices such as television sets and radio
receivers contain a large amount of digital circuitry. Some products
are made better using the digital implementation, while still
others are made either possible or affordable by the use of digital
circuitry.Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume 5: Digital Electronics
is about the basics of digital electronics. It is not a computer
book, but rather a book about the fundamental circuits that make
up not only computers, but all digital products. It joins other
books in the Electronic Circuit Guidebook series by providing
you with encapsulated practical information about specific areas
of electronics technology. Electronic Circuit Guidebook, Volume
5: Digital Electronics looks at logic gates, flip-flops, counters
and the ways they are combined to make practical circuits.

Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume #6: Oscillators |
Author: Joseph J. Carr |
SAMS#: 61185 |
Price: $38.95 |
Summary |
Electronic oscillator circuits are used to generate
repetitive or periodic waveforms. These waveforms may be sine
waves, square waves, triangle waves, sawtooth waves or pulses,
depending on the needs of the circuit being developed. It is
relatively easy to make a circuit oscillate, as anyone who has
tried to build certain types of amplifiers will (to their misery)
testify. But to make the oscillator produce the correct amplitude,
frequency and waveshape takes a little doing. In this book,
you will learn how to make the "doing" a little less
traumatic. The approach taken is largely practical and straightforward,
and the math is kept to a minimum, but the math that is included
is intended to help the reader understand the circuits well
enough to be able to modify them to fit a certain need, or,
just to experiment - which is where the real fun begins!
Electronic
Circuit Guidebook, Volume 6: Oscillators covers the following:
|
Relaxation Oscillators |
