SAMS#: 61166 |
Price: $38.95 |
Summary |
| What is HDTV (High-Definition
Television)? For one thing, it's digital. That means that the
picture and sound information are converted from their normal
analog condition at the transmitting end, into a digital representation.
That digital information (picture and sound) is imposed onto a
carrier signal and sent as a stream of bits (bit stream) to the
receiver. The picture displayed by the receiving device will be
a faithful reproduction of the picture that was sent by the transmitting
device. In other words, the HDTV picture will either be perfect,
or it will not be received at all. Guide to HDTV Systems will
lead you to another discovery: The language describing HDTV actually
sounds more like the language describing computer/digital communications
than the language of television. The reason for that is the transmitter/receiver
link in HDTV is really a digital communications path; a signal
made up of streams of bits. Author Conrad Persson gives the reader
a detailed background on what HDTV is, the technical standards
involved, how HDTV signals are generated and transmitted, and
a generalized description in an HDTV set. Other topics covered
include the ATSC digital TV standard, receiver characteristics,
NTSC/HDTV compatibility, scanning methods, test equipment, servicing
considerations, and more. Everyone from the HDTV owner to the
technician will find Guide to HDTV Systems a handy reference tool.
